FAQ

Q. Where does the regulation and AIM text come from?

A. The Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR) are sourced from the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR), an official U.S. government publication, and 49 CFR Part 830 from the same source. The Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) text comes from the FAA's own published AIM. Both are U.S. Government works. PilotKit bundles a snapshot of this text so it works fully offline; each section shows the source date it was captured from.

Q. How do I get the latest regulation text?

A. Open a FAR part and tap "Update from eCFR." Your device connects directly to the eCFR API and downloads the current text for that part, replacing the bundled copy. If you're offline or the update fails, PilotKit simply keeps using the bundled version — nothing breaks. No personal information is sent as part of this request; see the Privacy Policy for details.

Q. Where do the E6B and weight & balance formulas come from?

A. The calculations follow the standard formulas and worked examples used throughout general aviation training, consistent with the FAA's Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge (e.g., pressure altitude, density altitude, wind triangle, and weight & balance methods). PilotKit's aircraft templates (such as a generic 172-class or 28-class single) use representative published figures for illustration — always confirm weight and balance numbers against your specific aircraft's current POH before using them for flight planning.

Q. Is any of this an official or certified source?

A. No. PilotKit is an independent reference and calculation tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by the FAA. Always verify against current official FAA publications and your aircraft's POH before relying on any figure for actual flight operations.

Q. Does PilotKit need an internet connection?

A. No. E6B, weight & balance, FAR, AIM, checklists, bookmarks, and notes all work completely offline using the bundled data. The only feature that uses the network at all is the optional "Update from eCFR" button.

Q. Is there a subscription?

A. No. PilotKit is a one-time purchase. There are no subscriptions, no auto-renewing charges, and no in-app purchases.

Q. How do I delete all my data?

A. Uninstall the app. Your aircraft profiles, checklists, bookmarks, and notes are stored only on your device and are removed with it.
